Papers of Mrs. Lillian Powell Barbour, including autograph book signed by male and female friends, many from Douglas School (1877-1878); scrapbooks of invitations, dance programs, etc. (6 v., 1881-1894); volume about plays, entitled "What I Have Seen," with ca. 30 letters by theater people responding to Lillian Powell's requests for autographs (1906-1909); poetry written by Powell (1 v., before 1888); ca. 20 letters written from European cities to Powell and typed and handwritten draft of her M.A. Thesis (in Spanish and English) at the University of Chicago, "The Influence of French Naturalism in the Works of Emilia Pardo Bazan" (1928); university cards and information (1915-1944) and diplomas (1917, 1928). Also present are 4 certificates of her father Moses W. Powell (1861-1899).

Most of the records in the collection pertain to the $400,000 raised by the American Baptist Education Society in 1889-1890 in order to obtain a 600,000 grant from John D. Rockefeller for the creation of an endowment for the University of Chicago.
